Taking it to the next level
In addition to GreenPath®, our proprietary environmental stewardship program, Delaware North has completed a growing number of major construction and development projects that were built to “green” building standards. These standards are maintained by the U.S. Green Building Council under a certification program known as Leadership in Engineering and Environmental Design (LEED). LEED is a voluntary rating system that has become a national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable, “green” buildings.
LEED provides four levels of certification for buildings in the United States: certified, silver, gold, and platinum – the highest rating. The certification is based on assessing five key areas:
- Sustainable site development
- Water savings
- Energy efficiency
- Materials selection
- Indoor environmental quality
Delaware North completed construction several years ago of its new $30 million Daytona Beach (Fla.) Kennel Club & Poker Room, which was built to silver LEED certification standards. The company recycled approximately 95 percent of all construction waste from the Daytona project. The new facility is also 40 percent more water efficient and 25 percent more energy efficient than the 60-year-old complex it replaced.
