Community Involvement
Delaware North Companies Travel Hospitality Services has a deep sense of responsibility for the lives it touches through its work as a global leader in hospitality and food service. Delaware North is committed to making the world a better place by giving back to the communities in which we live and work.
Some of the proudest moments in Delaware North’s history of community outreach can be seen in our charitable partnerships with the airports where we operate. In airports like Austin-Bergstrom International, Fort-Lauderdale Hollywood International, Louis Armstrong New Orleans International, and George Bush International we have achieved great successes working to better our communities:
- Delaware North Companies Travel Hospitality Services participates in a yearly Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo by purchasing a steer from one of the many students at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo at a cost of $10,000.00. These donations are used to develop scholarships so that FFA or 4H students can further their education and careers.
- In June 1999, Delaware North debuted the “Music in the Air” program to bring live music to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. October 7, 2011 marked the 5,000th show performed.
- At Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Delaware North has partnered with two Broward County organizations to reduce homelessness by employing more than 60 program participants in the last several years.
Perhaps the most important impact Delaware North has been able to make has been in New Orleans, post Hurricane Katrina:
- During this time, Delaware North’s facilities housed, fed and cared for thousands of displaced families, individuals and rescue workers, preparing in excess of 25,000 meals for refugees and relief workers housed at the airport during and immediately after the storm.
- Delaware North created KARE (Katrina Associate Relief Effort) where employees of Delaware North worldwide were able to contribute and assist the victims of Katrina.
- KARE effectively assisted local Delaware North employees with their immediate needs, including shelter, food and clothing and raised over $300,000 for other residents in need. Delaware North matched these donations dollar for dollar. The remaining funds were donated to New Orleans Habitat for Humanity and New Orleans Kids Café.
