Our Sportservice Management Clients

Where a handshake still matters

Delaware North has always held its client relationships in the highest regard, harkening back to the days when our founders Marvin, Charles and Louis Jacobs did business with a handshake and a promise. They approached each deal as a partnership, often investing in teams that were struggling in the early days of Major League Baseball (MLB).

To this day, our Sportservice management team is proud to carry on their example of business leadership and ethics in our client relationships. Although we work for our clients, we consider them partners and treat each of the properties where we are privileged to operate as our own. For example:

  • We invest significant dollars and expertise into renovations and maintenance at the venues
  • We celebrate the uniqueness of each partnership and region in our menus, designs and operations
  • We hire and train the majority of our associates from the local communities where we operate, helping to provide jobs and economic stability
  • We continuously give back to our clients’ communities through volunteerism and philanthropic endeavors

Long-standing partnerships are a hallmark of Delaware North and one of the keys to our success as one of the largest privately held companies in the world. In 1930, we made our first deal with an MLB team – the Detroit Tigers – and we’re proud to still be partners with them today.

Back in the day, Louis Jacobs boarded a train to Detroit to give the owner of the Tigers a refund. Jacobs believed the deal was more lucrative than it had to be for his new concessions company. The Delaware North founder won a lot of respect that day and eventually a lot of new business. Word of Jacobs’ honesty and integrity got around to other MLB teams. One by one, they started calling to do business with Delaware North.
