GreenPath®
Environmental efforts taking flight
As one of the most admired privately held companies in the world, Delaware North Companies is fortunate to do business in many of the world’s high-profile and treasured places. The company is committed to responsible stewardship of the natural resources in all of these locations, and thus we developed GreenPath® – our award-winning, proprietary environmental management system (EMS) – to guide us in our pursuit of environmental excellence.
Meeting the highest standards
Delaware North was the first hospitality company to register to the EMS standards put forth by the International Organization of Standardization (ISO 14001). Additionally, we utilize the standards created by the U.S. Green Building Council under a certification program known as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). All Delaware North associates have annual training sessions to make sure we are all walking the GreenPath®.
Extending the GreenPath®
For Delaware North, responsible stewardship means more than just being green. We also report on all aspects of our corporate social responsibility using the Global Reporting Initiative’s reporting guidelines. Our corporate social responsibility encompasses everything from our eco-friendly travel hospitality services and green initiatives, to our fair hiring practices, healthy living initiatives and outreach in the communities in which we live.
Award-winning leadership
GreenPath® has been recognized at least 50 times with regional, national and international awards from organizations such as the U.S Department of Interior, the U.S. National Park Service, NASA, the U.S Environmental Protection Agency, IMEX and the U.S. Travel Association.
Putting words into action
At Richmond International Airport, the Club Level Grill location was constructed:
- Using more than 20 percent regionally sourced materials for construction
- Utilizing paints and adhesives that have low volatile organic compounds to minimize air pollutants
- Implementing sustainably managed and harvested lumber for all the millwork
- Recycling 75 percent of construction waste
- Using energy-efficient lighting and Energy Star appliances
In addition, all oil and grease generated from food preparation at Richmond will be sent to local company Valley Proteins, Inc. that recycles or reuses 100 percent of collected materials, thereby reducing a major contributor to landfills
Delaware North has diverted thousands of tons from the solid waste stream, saved millions of gallons of water and reduced energy consumption while demonstrating its commitment to do the right thing.
